The vardenafil QT study the other two specimens skip

Last reviewed · 9 min read · Updated

ECG stroke beside the 5-20 mg vardenafil range

Specimen card

OnsetQT measured at 1 hour, near median Tmax
DurationOrdinary vardenafil clock still about 4-5 hours
FoodNot the variable on this log; see the onset sample for fat
AlcoholNot a QT substitute; still a standing-pressure watch

Fifty-nine healthy men sat in a crossover of vardenafil 10 mg, vardenafil 80 mg, placebo, and moxifloxacin 400 mg. QTc rose in the same conversation as the active control. A later 44-man add-on with gatifloxacin was additive at about 9 msec QTcF.

Class IA and Class III antiarrhythmics, and congenital long QT, are a labelled avoid. This log is that screen. It is not a reason to panic every ECG. Reviewed 21 August 2026.

Fifty-nine healthy men sat for a QTc conversation

Fifty-nine healthy men aged 45-60 sat in a single-dose, double-blind, placebo- and moxifloxacin-controlled crossover. Vardenafil 10 mg (therapeutic) and 80 mg (four times the highest recommended dose) were compared with moxifloxacin 400 mg. QT was read at one hour because that is near peak. The 80 mg arm exists to cover concentrations seen when 5 mg vardenafil meets ritonavir 600 mg twice daily.

This log is the screen 2026 Levitra compares skip when they hand the INN a 'fewest side effects' ribbon. Headache and flushing are still common. The separating line is this study plus the avoid list.

Parent: vardenafil specimen. Onset and dinner: onset sample. Class compare: rack sheet.

What this screen does not catch

It does not catch a nitrate. That ban is class-wide and already fatal to the visit. It does not catch a fatty dinner. That is the onset log. It does not catch a shop ranking. This page will not say vardenafil is dangerous and the others are safe. It says vardenafil has a dedicated QT study the others do not reprint at this length.

Treadmill studies at 10 and 20 mg in selected men with stable exertional angina found no change in exercise time versus placebo. That is not a QT study and not a nitrate open. Do not mash the angina treadmill into this ECG note.

A normal ECG last year does not retire a new amiodarone start. Re-screen the list when the chart changes. Mannerheimintie will not read an uploaded tracing.

What the QT log will stamp

  • Class IA / III or congenital long QT: avoid vardenafil
  • Other QT drugs: additive risk, bring the list
  • Ritonavir: 2.5 mg / 72 hours, separate from the avoid list
  • Nitrates: class ban, not a vardenafil-only line

The avoid list this screen actually catches

Patients taking Class IA drugs (quinidine, procainamide) or Class III drugs (amiodarone, sotalol), or with congenital QT prolongation, should avoid LEVITRA. Avoid means avoid. A 5 mg film tablet is not a workaround. The 5-20 mg SERP lock does not create a safe low rung inside an avoid.

Other QT-prolonging drugs are a clinical-decision paragraph, not the same hard avoid sentence. The gatifloxacin add-on is the labelled example that effects can be additive. Bring the full list. Do not hide a macrolide or an antipsychotic and then call the screen negative.

Ritonavir is a concentration story that justified the 80 mg study arm and a 2.5 mg every-72-hour cap. It is not itself the Class IA/III avoid. A man on ritonavir and amiodarone has two different reasons to leave this INN.

Milliseconds are not a danger score against Cialis

Five milliseconds placebo-subtracted QTcF after 10 mg, and nine with gatifloxacin, are labelled numbers. They are not a league table that makes tadalafil or sildenafil 'safer' in every man. Those INNs have their own nitrate and CYP stories. This log only closes vardenafil for a specific list.

A 2026 scare headline that says 'Levitra hurts the heart' after reading 5 msec is doing the inverse of the mildness ribbon. Both skip the avoid list. Read quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone, sotalol, and congenital long QT. Then stop writing scores.

Mannerheimintie will not convert milliseconds into a shop ranking. If the list is clean, the 5-20 mg film stays a short clock. If it is not, the column closes. That is the whole screen.

Heart rate rose a mean 5 beats per minute after 10 mg and 6 after 80 mg versus placebo in the 59-man study. That pulse bump is not an efficacy feature and not a reason to call the tablet stimulating. It is part of the same one-hour readout as the QTc table. Do not treat a faster pulse after Levitra as proof the onset race was won.

How to read a medication list against this screen

Start with the hard avoid: quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone, sotalol, congenital long QT. If any of those are present, the vardenafil column is closed. Do not bargain with 5 mg. Do not bargain with 'only once this month'.

Then read the additive paragraph. Other QT-prolonging drugs - some macrolides, some antipsychotics, some fluoroquinolones - are a clinical decision because the gatifloxacin add-on showed milliseconds can stack. Bring the full list. A hidden nightly tablet is how screens fail.

Then read the CYP list as a separate column. Ritonavir, indinavir, and high-dose azoles change milligrams and intervals. They do not by themselves trigger the Class IA/III avoid. A man can fail the CYP column and pass the QT avoid, or fail both. Write both sentences.

Then read nitrates. That ban is class-wide and already fatal. A clean QT list does not open nitroglycerin. This log will keep saying that because readers mash the treadmill angina study into the ECG study and walk out with a false green light.

Who still gets the 5-20 mg film after the screen

A man with no congenital long QT, no Class IA/III drug, a reviewed list of other QT agents, and no nitrate plan. Age 65 still starts at 5 mg as a PK consideration. Child-Pugh B starts at 5 mg and tops at 10 mg. Those cuts are not QT cuts.

A clean screen does not make vardenafil 'best' in 2026. It only keeps the column open. Duration, food, and preference still decide against tadalafil and sildenafil on the rack. This log will not hand a trophy to a man who merely survived an avoid list.

Generic film does not soften the screen. Export 20 mg names do not soften it. Staxyn does not retire it. If the INN is vardenafil, the 59-man study and the avoid list travel with the blister.

If the list is messy and the household wanted a short clock, sildenafil 25-50 mg is the other short column, with its own meal and CYP story. Tadalafil is the long column. The QT log's job is to close one column, not to rank the other two.

What the milliseconds said, and what they did not

Therapeutic and supratherapeutic vardenafil produced QTc increases similar to moxifloxacin 400 mg in that 59-man study. Heart rate rose a mean 5 beats/minute after 10 mg and 6 after 80 mg versus placebo. No single QT correction method is known to be more valid than the other; the label reports Fridericia and an individual linear method.

A postmarketing study in 44 healthy volunteers found 10 mg Levitra placebo-subtracted QTcF about 5 msec (90% CI 2-8). Gatifloxacin 400 mg was about 4 msec (90% CI 1-7). Together: about 9 msec (90% CI 6-11). The clinical impact of those shifts is unknown. The prescribing impact is not unknown.

Unknown clinical impact is not permission to pair vardenafil with amiodarone. It is a reason not to write scare copy about every millisecond on a screening ECG in a man with no QT drugs and no congenital long QT.

QT assay notes. 80 mg is a study arm, not a weekend tablet.
ArmWhy it was in the studyWhat this log does with it
Vardenafil 10 mgTherapeutic film doseOrdinary 5-20 mg conversation
Vardenafil 80 mgCovers 5 mg + ritonavir-level exposureNot a labelled ED dose
Moxifloxacin 400 mgActive QT controlSame conversation, not a Levitra rival
Gatifloxacin 400 mg add-onPostmarketing additive QTcF ~9 msecOther QT drugs can add

Five to twenty milligrams still stands when the list is clean

If the avoid list is empty, vardenafil 5-20 mg film remains a short-acting option: 10 mg start, 5 mg for age 65 or Child-Pugh B, 20 mg ceiling. The QT paragraph does not turn a clean chart into a banned INN.

2026 titles that drop Levitra because of this study, without reading the avoid list, are doing the inverse of the 'fewest side effects' ribbon. Both are sloppy. Read the list. Then read the specimen.

Diabetes and post-prostatectomy efficacy numbers are lower than general-ED rates. That is not a QT finding. Keep those trials on the specimen, not on this ECG log.

A screen is a list, not a scare headline

Stamp the 59-man study, the gatifloxacin add-on, and the Class IA/III avoid. Do not stamp 'Levitra is the dangerous one'.

Read the list in order: hard avoid, additive QT drugs, CYP caps, then nitrates. Amiodarone closes the column. Azithromycin is a think-about, not the same stamp. Ritonavir is a 2.5 mg every-72-hour cap, not the Class IA/III avoid. A normal ECG last year does not retire a new Class III start.

A clean list keeps 5-20 mg open. It does not hand a 2026 trophy. Jonas Berg, Mannerheimintie 18. [email protected] if a millisecond is wrong. Do not mail a tracing.

Specimen thread

QT-thread from Helsinki. Avoid list first. No tracing reads.

Elsa, Töölö His last ECG was normal. Can we still use Levitra 10 mg?

Desk reply

A normal ECG is not the whole screen. The labelled avoid is congenital long QT or Class IA/III drugs. If those are absent and the rest of the chart is quiet, 10 mg remains the usual adult start. If amiodarone started after that ECG, the column closes. Re-read the list, not the old tracing. I will not clear a 10 mg tablet from an emailed PDF.

Otto, Kallio Should everyone get an ECG before generic vardenafil?

Desk reply

The label does not order a universal ECG. It orders you to avoid the INN in congenital long QT and on Class IA/III drugs, and to think about other QT drugs because effects can add. A 2026 scare headline that demands a tracing from every man is not this log. A 2026 lifestyle headline that never asks about amiodarone is also not this log. Ask the list. Then decide whether the specimen is still open.

Jonne, Arabianranta His ECG was last year. Amiodarone started in March. Still fine?

Desk reply

No. A normal ECG last year does not retire a new Class III start. Amiodarone is a labelled avoid now. The vardenafil column closes. Look at the other two INNs with the clinician who wrote the amiodarone. Do not bargain for 5 mg Levitra because the old tracing was pretty.

Kimmo, Pasila He takes amiodarone. Is 5 mg vardenafil a safer screen?

Desk reply

No. Avoid means avoid. Five milligrams is the age and Child-Pugh B start, not a QT workaround. The 80 mg study arm was about ritonavir-level concentrations, not a permission structure for arrhythmia drugs. Look at tadalafil or sildenafil with the clinician who owns the arrhythmia chart. This log will not pick the remaining INN.

Sami, Kamppi He takes azithromycin sometimes. Is that the same avoid as amiodarone?

Desk reply

No. Amiodarone is a Class III drug and a labelled avoid. Azithromycin is in the 'other QT drugs, think about add-on risk' paragraph, closer to the gatifloxacin example than to the hard avoid sentence. Bring the full list to the clinician. Do not hide a course of azithromycin and then call the screen negative. Do not treat a sometimes-macrolide as if it were amiodarone. Those are different stamps.

Reetta, Töölö Can I send an ECG photo to [email protected]?

Desk reply

No. Mannerheimintie will not read a tracing. This log reads lists and labelled milliseconds. If the question is congenital long QT or a Class IA/III drug, the avoid is already written. Mail a cite if a number on the page is wrong. Mail nothing that looks like a chart. Jonas does not clear a 10 mg tablet from a phone photo.

Paula, Espoo He is on ritonavir but not on a QT drug. Is that the 80 mg story?

Desk reply

Yes, as a concentration story. The 80 mg arm was chosen because it covers 5 mg vardenafil plus ritonavir 600 mg twice daily. The labelled cap is 2.5 mg once in 72 hours, not an 80 mg tablet and not a casual 10 mg. Ritonavir is not the Class IA/III avoid. It is a separate, brutal CYP cut. Do not mix the two sentences.

Venla, Lauttasaari Does this QT story make Cialis or Viagra the best 2026 pick?

Desk reply

It makes vardenafil the wrong pick for a specific list. It does not hand a trophy to the other two. They still have nitrates, CYP caps, and their own clocks. Open the rack sheet for the three-clock compare. [email protected] if a millisecond on this page is wrong. No shop ranking from a QT log.
